Is this for a founder, startup entrepreneur, self-employed person, freelancer, company owner or another business profile?

This route is for a third-country national who is conducting, or will conduct, business in Slovakia as a natural person (self-employed on a trade licence), rather than as a company officer.

What must actually exist or be demonstrated: business plan, company, innovation, clients, contracts, economic activity, job creation or other substance?

The business purpose is demonstrated by a business plan in the prescribed form, a business plan for an innovative project, or a document confirming authorisation to do business; where a business plan is submitted, the feasibility and sustainability of the business activity must also be confirmed.

What investment, capital, income, revenue, funding or viability evidence is central to this pathway?

Financial resources for business are proven by the balance on a business bank account, separate from the personal subsistence account (last three months' statement for a foreign bank), of twenty times the subsistence minimum. On renewal, taxable income from the business for the previous fiscal period must be at least twenty times the subsistence minimum (double the subsistence minimum per month if business was not conducted for the whole period).

What approval/application sequence applies, how long is the status granted, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction is officially stated?

The application for business residence cannot be submitted at the Foreign Police Department except when changing purpose. It is granted for the assumed period of business, maximum three years; it may be renewed, even repeatedly, if the purpose persists and conditions continue to be met, for a maximum of three years if the assumed residence lasts at least three years. Long-term residence is granted after at least 5 years of uninterrupted legal residence in Slovakia.
