For the relevant traveller scope, is a visa, electronic authorisation, visa on arrival or no advance visa normally required?

Nationals of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Ukraine do not need a visa for short stays if they hold a biometric passport. The official source does not state the full list of nationalities that need a type C visa.

What short-visit purposes does this route cover?

Short visits such as tourism and visiting relatives and friends, visits based on an invitation (including from a business company or institution), international conferences, seminars, symposia, cultural and sporting events, medical treatment, and vocational or theoretical courses not exceeding 90 days. In general the visa cannot be used for employment or similar profit-focused activity.

What maximum stay, rolling-period rule, validity and entry rules apply?

The type C short-stay visa allows entry and stay in the Schengen Area for up to 90 days within any 180-day period, and may be issued for one entry or multiple entries.

What important funds, accommodation, invitation, insurance, onward-travel or passport evidence may be required?

At the border the traveller may be asked to justify the purpose and conditions of the stay and show sufficient means of subsistence for the stay and the return or onward transit; entry can be refused. Travel medical insurance valid in all Member States with minimum coverage of EUR 30,000 is required. The visa application requires a passport valid at least 3 months after the visa expires, a non-open return ticket (or driving documents), proof of accommodation, and proof of funds of at least EUR 56 per day, which applicants are advised to carry as it may be requested at the Slovak border.
