Which citizenship, status or regional agreement creates the person's right to move/reside?

This route is the right of permanent residence for a Union citizen (a citizen of another EU Member State, an EEA state, or Switzerland) who has already been lawfully residing in Slovakia.

Under which circumstances can the person reside: worker, self-employed, student, jobseeker, self-funded person or another recognised basis?

A Union citizen may reside in Slovakia for more than three months if employed, self-employed, studying at a primary or secondary school or university, self-sufficient with sufficient financial means and Slovak health insurance, likely to find employment (jobseeker), or as a family member accompanying or joining a Union citizen who meets one of these conditions.

    A Union citizen is entitled to a residence in the territory of the Slovak Republic during a period longer than three months if he/she: is employed in Slovakia, is self-employed in Slovakia, studies in primary or secondary school or at a university in Slovakia, has sufficient financial means for themselves as well as for their family members, to prevent them from burdening the social security system during their stay and has health insurance in Slovakia, will potentially find employment, is a family member of a Union citizen who meets one of the above-mentioned conditions and whom he/she is accompanying or joining.

What entry, registration or residence-document formalities remain?

A Union citizen reports the start of residence within10working days of entry. For residence exceeding three months, registration is requested within30days after those three months, in person on the official form or through the statutory electronic service. The police issue registration confirmation on the day a complete application is submitted. A Union citizen meeting the permanent-residence conditions applies with supporting evidence for a Residence Card of EU Citizen, issued within30days and valid for10years; that document period is distinct from the underlying permanent right.

Which non-member-country family members can accompany or join, and what broad rights do they receive?

A family member of a Union citizen who meets a residence condition and whom he/she accompanies or joins has the right of residence; a family member becomes eligible for permanent residence after five years of continuous residence with the sponsor, or sooner if the sponsor becomes eligible for permanent residence.

A Union citizen is entitled to permanent residence after five years of uninterrupted legal residence in Slovakia; in specific cases an application is possible earlier. The right of residence or permanent residence expires on written notice of termination to the Foreign Police Department, deportation, revocation by the Foreign Police Department, death or declaration of death, or acquisition of Slovak citizenship.
