What other major conditions apply, how is the status obtained, and what renewal, document-validity, retention or loss rules matter?

A settlement applicant must be in Jersey. Applicants aged 18 or over and under 65 must show English language ability of at least CEFR level B1 in reading, writing, speaking and listening, and sufficient knowledge of the English language and of life in the UK and Jersey (Appendix KoLL). If the settlement requirements are not met but the applicant is likely to meet the requirements for permission to stay on their current route, the Minister varies the application to one for permission to stay. The official source does not state rules on retention or loss of settlement once granted.
