For the relevant traveller scope, is a visa, electronic authorisation, visa on arrival or no advance visa normally required?

A Diplomatic Visa Arrangement (DVA) Visitor applies for entry clearance (a visit visa) before travel. The route applies to applicants who travel on or after 11 March 2025 and are nationals of the People's Republic of China, Indonesia, South Africa, Turkey or Vietnam holding a diplomatic passport issued by that country.

The route is for holders of a valid diplomatic passport visiting the UK and/or Jersey who are nominated through a Note Verbale from their sending government. The grant carries no access to public funds, no work other than the permitted activities, and no study except where permitted. What maximum stay, rolling-period rule, validity and entry rules apply?

DVA Visitors may apply for a visit visa valid for 2 years, but each stay in the UK and/or Jersey must not exceed 6 months. Within the validity of the entry clearance the visitor may enter and leave Jersey multiple times unless it is endorsed as single or dual entry. A genuine visitor must not live in Jersey for extended periods through frequent or successive visits or make Jersey their main home.

What important funds, accommodation, invitation, insurance, onward-travel or passport evidence may be required?

The applicant must be aged 18 or older and hold a valid diplomatic passport establishing identity and nationality. The application must be supported by a Note Verbale from the government of nationality giving the applicant's name, date of birth and passport number and confirming government support. As a visitor, the applicant must have sufficient funds to cover all reasonable costs of the visit without working or accessing public funds, including the cost of the return or onward journey. Where/how is permission obtained when required, and under what important circumstances can a stay be extended or changed?

Entry clearance as a DVA Visitor is applied for online on the gov.uk website using the form “Apply for an exempt, diplomatic, official visit vignette or S2 Healthcare Visitor visa”, while the applicant is outside Jersey, to a post designated to accept such applications. The Note Verbale must have been issued on or before the application date and not withdrawn. Applications for leave to remain as a Visitor in Jersey can only be made by a person in Jersey with leave as a Standard Visitor or Marriage/Civil Partnership Visitor.
