Which family relationships qualify?

The spouse or civil partner, or the child, of a person with limited leave to enter or remain in Jersey under paragraphs 200-239.

What is important for proving marriage, partnership, parentage, custody, dependency or another qualifying relationship?

A spouse/civil partner must intend to live with the principal during the stay and the marriage or civil partnership must be subsisting. A child must be unmarried, not have formed an independent family unit and not be leading an independent life; both parents must be or have been admitted unless the joined parent is the sole surviving parent, has had sole responsibility, or serious and compelling considerations apply with suitable care arrangements.

What important financial, accommodation, insurance or maintenance responsibilities apply?

There must be adequate accommodation for the parties and any dependants, and the parties must be able to maintain themselves and any dependants adequately, without recourse to public funds; a child must be maintained and accommodated adequately without recourse to public funds in accommodation the parent(s) own or occupy exclusively.

How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

A spouse/civil partner may be given leave to enter for a period not exceeding the principal's leave, and may later be granted indefinite leave to remain if the requirements of paragraph 242D are met. A child may be granted indefinite leave to remain if admitted with valid entry clearance, meeting paragraph 243 and when the parent is being granted indefinite leave to remain at the same time.
