- Age Min
Temporary-route employees must be at least eighteen on the application date.
- Counts For Settlement
Time on a temporary work-permit route does not count toward indefinite leave to remain.

The annual route is restricted to construction, hospitality and sea-going fishing.
- Employer Work Permit Application Required
The employer or authorised representative, not the employee, must apply for the work permit.
- Going Rate And Signed Contract Required
The employee must receive at least the going rate for the full-time role, evidenced by a signed contract.
- Job offer
The employer must demonstrate a genuine vacancy and recruit a person with the relevant skills or experience.
- Language requirement
There is no English-language requirement for temporary work permits.
- Mandatory Absence After Route
The policy requires four months after the first year, eight after up to two years, twelve after up to three years and sixteen after a fourth construction year.
