For the Gambian child-registration route, the Immigration Department says that a person who has reached maturity (18) may be formally registered as a citizen by a parent who naturalised or registered through marriage; the child then enjoys status similar to that parent. The same page describes an alternative self-application after puberty for a person who was not a citizen when the parents naturalised or registered, with evidence of at least 15 years of continuous residence, or seven years for the separate marriage-based option. It states generally that citizenship acquired other than by birth or descent may be revoked by the Minister of the Interior on the stated naturalisation-loyalty ground, but does not explain how that rule applies to this particular registration route.
