Limits of the record
  • Only the EU-citizen-child tab was captured; the family-member tab content was not in the capture.

Who may sponsor or bring the family member, and what immigration/citizenship status must that person hold?

The legal guardian: if the guardian resides in Czechia on a permanent residence permit, they may apply for the child's permanent residence within 60 days of birth; after this period, a permanent residence application on humanitarian grounds is possible, indicating the purpose as living with a legal guardian holding permanent residence.

What important financial, accommodation, insurance or maintenance responsibilities apply?

For an EU-citizen child, health insurance must be paid from the day of birth; if a guardian with permanent residence applies for the child's permanent residence within 60 days of birth, the child is covered by public health insurance from birth. For a registration certificate (stay over 3 months) health insurance must be arranged.

How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

The legal guardian applies in person at the locally competent Ministry of the Interior office (fee CZK 200, processing period 60 days). If granted, the child remains in public health insurance. If the 60-day deadline is missed without reasons beyond one's control, a humanitarian permanent residence application for an EU citizen is still possible.
