This is a temporary stay permit, not a residence-based status. Foreigners who entered visa-free and need to stay beyond the visa-free period may apply for a stay permit, issued for a corresponding period of stay for non-diplomatic/official reasons with supporting materials. Application is made in person at a public security exit-entry authority, or in prescribed circumstances by the inviting entity/individual, a relative or a professional service agency on behalf of the applicant; the decision is made within the validity period of the acceptance notice, which does not exceed 7 working days; the fee is CNY 160.
