This is a temporary stay permit, not a residence-based status. A stay permit of not more than 180 days may be issued to a person approved to renounce Chinese nationality who needs to stay in China, on submitting the renunciation certificate, a foreign passport or other travel document and supporting materials. The application is made in person at the public security exit-entry authority. A holder unable to leave within the permit's validity for objective reasons may apply for replacement of the permit.
