Keep the two applications separate
For Express Entry bridging permits, IRCC requires a complete residence application that passed the completeness check and an acknowledgement of receipt. A pool profile alone is insufficient. The principal applicant must live in Canada intending to reside outside Quebec and meet the specified current-permit, maintained-status or restoration conditions.
When a timely extension preserves work conditions
IRCC confirms that a work-permit extension or change application submitted before expiry can preserve work authorization pending a decision. The person must stay in Canada and follow the original conditions, including the named employer on an employer-specific permit. This does not authorize starting any new job.
Use the instructions for your residence class
A bridging permit is conditional and class-specific. Express Entry PNP applicants also need a nomination without employment restrictions; other classes have their own instructions. IRCC identifies leaving after permit expiry as a situation where work cannot resume until approval. Restoration eligibility does not by itself mean you may keep working.
Make a status timeline
Put your permit expiry, submission receipt, residence acknowledgement and employer conditions on one timeline. Retain copies you can show your employer. Before travel, a job change or a late application, check the exact instructions for your status. Obtain individual advice if a missed deadline or refusal affects the timeline.
Questions before acting
Does entering the Express Entry pool allow work?
No. Confirm a separate authorization; a pool profile is not the required residence application.
Can maintained status be assumed after any immigration application?
No. Check which application was filed, its timing and the conditions of your existing permit.
