Which exceptional-talent, academic, scientific, artistic, technological, cultural or other profiles does the pathway target?

The first-preference category targets three profiles: aliens of extraordinary ability, outstanding professors or researchers, and certain multinational executives or managers. Each occupational category has certain requirements; outstanding professors and researchers must demonstrate international recognition for their outstanding achievements in a particular academic field.

What achievements, recognition, awards, publications, reputation or other evidence establishes the required level?

For the extraordinary-ability profile: sustained national or international acclaim must be demonstrated by meeting at least 3 of 10 USCIS-listed criteria, or by a one-time major achievement (e.g. Pulitzer, Oscar, Olympic medal), plus evidence the applicant will keep working in that field. No job offer or labour certification is required for this profile.

For the multinational executive/manager profile: the petitioning employer must be a U.S. employer intending to employ the applicant in a managerial or executive capacity, and must have been doing business in the U.S. for at least 1 year as a legal entity with a qualifying relationship to the foreign entity that employed the applicant abroad in that capacity. No job offer or labour certification is required for the extraordinary-ability profile.

Extraordinary-ability applicants need no job offer but must show they will continue to work in their area of expertise. Spouse and unmarried children under 21 may be admitted in E-14 / E-15 immigrant status once the I-140 is approved. What duration, renewal and accelerated or normal longer-term residence pathway is officially stated?

EB-1 is an employment-based immigrant visa: once the immigrant visa is issued and the USCIS immigrant fee paid, the holder is admitted as a permanent resident and the Permanent Resident Card (Form I-551, green card) is mailed.
