What medical treatment/purpose does the route cover and which applicant role does it address: patient, donor or another medical purpose?

The medical-treatment visit visa is for a foreign patient receiving treatment, with a licensed UAE health facility as host or guarantor. Accompanying persons may also be granted a visa under Article 23.

The extension for the companion shall be only made if the patient Entry Visa is extended. In all cases, the Beneficiary shall have health insurance and provide the prescribed financial security.

What acceptance, appointment, referral, treatment plan or healthcare-provider documentation is important?

The host or guarantor must be a licensed health facility in the UAE. Article 24 requires a certified medical report and a letter from that facility stating the reasons for the visit.

How must treatment costs, living costs and insurance be demonstrated?

Treatment costs: the medical-visa provisions do not establish a universal prepaid-treatment amount or a specific document proving payment of the hospital bill. Living costs: the official source does not establish a separate nationwide living-funds threshold or proof format. Insurance and security: valid UAE health insurance and the prescribed financial security are required. GDRFA Dubai publishes a security deposit of AED 1,000 for a single entry and AED 2,000 for several entries; these are Dubai visa-security amounts, not the cost of treatment or a living-cost budget.

Can a carer/companion accompany the patient? Who qualifies and what separate/linked permission applies?

A medical-treatment companion must enter with the patient and hold a visa of the same single- or multiple-entry type. The companion’s visa may be extended only if the patient’s visa is extended. Article 24 requires health insurance and the prescribed financial security; it does not limit the companion to a single extension.

How long can the patient stay, what happens if treatment continues longer, and what official extension or follow-up mechanism exists?

GDRFA Dubai states the medical-treatment visit visa is granted for one or several entries, valid for 90 days or 180 days. ICP states the medical-treatment entry permit may be extended by the issuing authority once or multiple times, provided the total duration does not exceed 180 days, and that the entry permit's validity may be extended once, for an equivalent period, before arriving in the UAE.
