What exact activity, role or purpose qualifies?

The qualifying activity is participation in the activity of branches, divisions, representative offices and other structural units of civil society (non-governmental) organisations of foreign states, registered according to the established procedure.

The supporting host is the respective branch, division, representative office or other structural unit of the foreign civil society (non-governmental) organisation, which issues a request (solicitation); for the D visa, the invitation comes from the foreign NGO branch/office duly registered in Ukraine.

What proves the placement, role, affiliation, experience or cultural/religious/voluntary activity?

Proof is the original and a copy of the registration certificate of the structural unit of the foreign civil society (non-governmental) organisation in Ukraine (the original is returned after inspection).

Can the person receive salary, pocket money, accommodation, meals or reimbursement? Can they undertake other work?

The temporary residence permit for participation in branches or representative offices of foreign NGOs is issued for the period in the submitted documents but no longer than one year, save for the exceptions defined in the Procedure; extension is not foreseen, and instead documents for exchange are submitted no later than 15 working days before expiry. The official source does not state whether the person can change host or activity, or whether family members can accompany.
