  • No achievements, publications, awards or academic level are specified; the evidence is left to the immigration officer.

Limits of the record
  • This records that the checked official-source captures did not establish the requested detail; it does not establish that a legal rule or right is absent.

Can the holder change employer, work independently, establish a business or conduct other professional activity? What is the family position?

The Principal Immigration Officer may attach conditions on the profession or occupation the holder may exercise and the employer(s) who may employ them. The Minister may cancel the permit for unauthorised employment. The fee list sets a research fee of $600 for the principal applicant and $300 for each dependant.

Limits of the record
  • Whether the holder can change employer, work independently or set up a business is not stated beyond permit conditions.
  • That dependants can be included is an inference from the per-dependent fee, not an express rule.

What duration, renewal and accelerated or normal longer-term residence pathway is officially stated?

An academic or scientific research Permit to Enter and Reside may be granted for a maximum stay of one year and may be extended under Regulation 4(4), not more than three times in any five-year period unless the Minister certifies, on the Citizenship Committee's advice, that a further extension is in the national interest. The official source does not state a longer-term residence path.
