Limits of the record
  • The page does not say whether the parent must sponsor, sign or be resident in the Islands for the child's application.

What is important for proving marriage, partnership, parentage, custody, dependency or another qualifying relationship?

The applicant must provide a certified copy of proof of the parent's status, together with the general TCI-status-by-grant documents, including a certified copy of the birth certificate (with a certified English translation if in a foreign language).

Limits of the record
  • The FAQ's Section 4(4) line adds a parenthesis referring to birth in the Islands to legally resident parents, which appears to belong to another route; the exact evidence list for this route is therefore not clean.
  • No DNA or custody evidence is named.

What important financial, accommodation, insurance or maintenance responsibilities apply?

The checked official sources did not provide enough route-specific evidence to confirm the financial, accommodation, insurance or maintenance requirements.

Limits of the record
  • Searched for income, accommodation, insurance or maintenance conditions for this route; none stated on the TCI-status page.

How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

Applications other than on the basis of marriage may be made between 1 June and 30 September each year and are considered by the Turks and Caicos Islander Status Commission. Islander status is described as the highest immigration status locally; only Islanders can vote, apply for residential crown land, government scholarships and business licences in the restricted category. Persons granted status may apply for the Islander Status Card but must first obtain the Islander Certificate. The official source does not state how long the status lasts.

Given that Turks and Caicos Islander Status is the highest immigration status locally, only Turks and Caicos Islanders can do the following: - Vote in an election - apply for and be considered for the acquisition of residential crown land - apply for and be considered for the grant of a TCI Government scholarship - apply for and be considered for the grant of a business license to operate in the restricted business license category

Persons who acquire the status as of right or by way of grant (through marriage and otherwise) are eligible to apply for the card. It is important to note however that persons who are claiming the status via grant, MUST acquire the Turks and Caicos and Caicos Islander Certificate prior to doing so.

These are the answers currently recorded in the catalogue. A missing or partial answer is not an eligibility decision.
