Which remote workers qualify: foreign employees, freelancers, company owners or other remote professionals?

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs describes the DTV as designed for foreigners on a tourist trip who work remotely, including highly skilled individuals, freelancers and remote workers; its first listed purpose of visit is "Workcation (digital nomad/remote worker/foreign talent/freelancer)". An employee shows a foreign employment contract or certificate and the employing company's registration, while a freelancer or self-employed applicant shows a professional portfolio and, in the country-specific annex, a business licence or registration in their name.

What income threshold applies, how must it be demonstrated, and how does family affect it where stated?

The national DTV baseline is financial evidence of at least THB 500,000; it does not set a national minimum monthly salary. A filing mission may prescribe the statement period, local-currency equivalent and additional documentary form for applications lodged in its jurisdiction. No family uplift is stated.

Where must the employer, company or clients be located? Is local work restricted?

The work must come from outside Thailand. The checklist asks for a foreign employment contract or employment certificate authenticated by the embassy of the country where the company is located, and a copy of that company's registration or business licence authenticated by the same embassy, so the employer is expected to be established abroad. The Brussels leaflet makes the continuing link explicit: an employment contract or certificate from the company in Belgium or Luxembourg stating that the applicant is still employed and paid by the company during the stay in Thailand. Neither document grants any permission to work for a Thai employer or to work locally, and neither mentions a Thai work permit.

Limits of the record
  • Neither document states whether local Thai work is prohibited or whether a work permit could be obtained alongside the DTV; the absence of any grant is not an explicit prohibition.

Can family accompany? How long is the status granted and can it be renewed?

Dependants, including the spouse and children under 20 years old, can also benefit from this visa and are the third listed purpose of visit in their own right. The visa is valid for 5 years, and each stay is a maximum of 180 days, extendable once in the country through immigration. The visa is a multiple one, so the five-year validity is used through repeated stays, and the documents describe no renewal of the visa itself beyond that extension.

Limits of the record
  • Neither document says whether the five-year visa can be renewed at the end of its validity, nor how long the single in-country extension lasts.

What immigration-relevant tax/residence information is officially stated, and what longer-term residence direction exists?

The official sources state nothing about tax. They describe a visa valid for 5 years, with each stay a maximum of 180 days, extendable once in the country through immigration. No longer-term residence direction is stated.

Limits of the record
  • Neither document addresses tax residence, tax liability or any longer-term residence direction for DTV holders.
