How long is the status granted, what is required for renewal, what physical-presence obligations matter, and what longer-term residence direction exists?

For the Class C-2 retired-person residence permit, Tanzania’s Immigration Act as amended in 2024 allows a residence permit to be issued for no more than two years and to be renewed. The Immigration Department’s Class C checklist calls for an online application and the previous original Class C permit in a renewal or replacement case. Its retired-person checklist lists evidence of retirement benefits, a retirement letter, evidence of place of occupancy, and surrender of a previous residence permit where one exists. The amended statutory provision does not fix an individual renewal term. The cited official material does not establish a C-2 physical-presence rule or a specific route to permanent or other long-term residence.

Limits of the record
  • No C-2-specific physical-presence or permitted-absence obligation is established by the cited official Act amendment or Immigration Department guideline.
  • No C-2-specific progression path to permanent or other long-term residence is established by the cited official material.
  • The cited material permits renewal and gives document checklists, but does not establish a fixed term for each renewal, whether every retired-person document must be resubmitted on renewal, or an automatic right to renewal.
