How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?
Applicants outside Taiwan are advised to apply at an ROC overseas mission; visitors who entered on a visitor visa annotated "TS" may apply for the Resident Visa 8 work days before their stay expires at BOCA or its Central, Southwestern, Southern or Eastern Taiwan Offices. After the Resident Visa, the holder must apply at NIA local service centres for an Alien Resident Certificate within 30 days from the day after arrival and a Re-entry Permit within 30 days from visa issuance; the duration of stay is noted on the ARC.
