Single entry permit valid six months from the day after issuance (one entry; validity extension once); renewable permit valid one or three years, each entry valid six months; multiple entry permit valid one or three years. Stay starts the day after entry and must not exceed three months; one extension of no more than three months.

If unable to enter within the validity period, an extension can be applied for once before the permit expires. 2. Where/how is permission obtained when required, and under what important circumstances can a stay be extended or changed?

Applications are made online through the NIA online system for foreign nationals, with online payment and a printed permit; processing takes five business days; fees are NT$600 (single or renewable), NT$1,000 (one-year multiple) and NT$2,000 (three-year multiple). The stay may be extended once by no more than three months. Long-term job seekers and immediate family of foreign professionals with residence permits must apply in person instead.
