Family reunification with an EU/EFTA citizen

Spouses Children or grandchildren who are under 21 years of age or who financially depend on the petitioner

your spouse or registered partner; your children and grandchildren under the age of 21 or dependent; your dependent parents and grandparents (unless you are in education or training).

If you are a citizen from an EU/EFTA country

For students the entitlement to family reunification is limited to the spouse and children entitled to financial support.

(they must prove that they were dependent on the petitioner before entering Switzerland).

Your family members arriving in Switzerland must have:

a certificate from the country of origin proving your relationship; for dependants, a certificate from the authorities of the country of origin or provenance proving that they are dependent on you or were living with you;

Under the terms of the AFMP, the right to family reunification is subject to the condition that housing be adequate to lodge the entire family

Health insurance is compulsory and private in Switzerland. Don't forget to conclude a contract for each member of your family.

If the application for family reunification is accepted, your family members will obtain a residence permit (the type of permit generally depends on your status).

Spouses and children of EU/EFTA nationals who are admitted to Switzerland under family reunification are legally entitled to work regardless of their nationality.
