What combination of travel, work, study or training does the programme permit?

The permit exists to let young people experience Swedish life and culture. The holder is allowed to work in Sweden, but the work must not be the main purpose of the trip and must end when the permit expires. The official source does not state whether study or training is permitted.

What are the defining limitations: quota, ballot, previous participation, employer limits, study limits or equivalent?

The official source sets out no quota, ballot, employer limit, study limit or previous-participation rule. The limits it does state are structural: the permit cannot be extended, it can never be granted for longer than the passport is valid, and a first application must be made from outside Sweden or it may be rejected.

What funds, insurance, onward travel or similar preparation is particularly important?

Applicants must have at least SEK 15,000 to support themselves on first arrival, evidenced by a bank statement no more than six months old, and a return ticket or the money to buy one. They must also have comprehensive health insurance valid for the entire stay, covering urgent and other medical care, hospitalisation, emergency dental care and medical repatriation; this insurance requirement does not apply to Australian citizens.
