Under which circumstances can the person reside: worker, self-employed, student, jobseeker, self-funded person or another recognised basis?

As a student: a course or programme at least at upper secondary level; Swedish for Immigrants (SFI) enrolment does not qualify. The student can work alongside studies. The status also allows moving to work, run a business or live on own funds.

What entry, registration or residence-document formalities remain?

A residence permit is needed for a stay longer than three months. Studies or work may start on arrival without waiting for the decision. Before a decision, the passport and EC/EU residence permit card may need to be presented at a Swedish embassy or consulate-general (outside Sweden) or a Swedish Migration Agency service centre (in Sweden). Students are granted a permit for the duration of studies, a maximum of one year at a time.
