What is important for proving marriage, partnership, parentage, custody, dependency or another qualifying relationship?

Married applicants provide a marriage certificate, marriage record or similar; cohabiting partners provide documents showing they have lived together (e.g. population registration certificates, a joint rental contract or proof of joint home purchase). Where there is a maintenance obligation, applicants provide a document from the competent national authority of the country where they lived together certifying it; other household members provide a document from that authority certifying that they belong to the same household.

Limits of the record
  • These obligations are stated for the Swiss citizen; the page states no separate maintenance amount for accompanying family members.

How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

Each family member, including children, completes their own application form, and applying is free for Swiss citizens and their family members. Family members can start working or studying as soon as they arrive in Sweden, without waiting for the decision. The official source does not state how long the family member's permit lasts or how the status can become independent or longer-term.
