Where can protection be requested, and is this a direct application, border/in-country request, referral or other process?
Registration and documentation are being conducted by the Commissioner for Refugees (COR) and UNHCR only in states where the security situation permits; named locations are Shagarab Camp (Kassala State) and, to some extent, Gedaref. Contact is made with COR or UNHCR in person or by phone; an already-registered person should have their individual or household number ready, while an unregistered person may be asked for civil documents (birth certificate, national ID, passport, school enrolment letter, marriage certificate, etc.). In other areas with no active registration, a person can only report their presence at the nearest UNHCR or COR office, for planning purposes, not as a full registration.
