What important financial, accommodation, insurance or maintenance responsibilities apply?

The sponsor must prove sufficient means for himself and all family members for the previous six months and for the month of application (or decision), weighted like cash social assistance (e.g. sponsor weight 1,00, spouse 0,57, child 0,59 of the basic minimum income, which changes). How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

Application at any administrative unit in Slovenia or at a Slovenian diplomatic/consular mission abroad, with an administrative fee. The first permit is valid as long as the sponsor’s permit but no longer than two years; extensions are filed by the sponsor on the same conditions for up to the sponsor’s permit validity but not more than three years, and for each adult (over 18) family member proof of Slovenian at survival level is required unless an exception applies. If the sponsor dies, or a marriage/partnership that lasted at least three years in Slovenia ends, the permit can be extended once. The official source does not state work rights of reunified family members.
