Which family relationships qualify?

Family members are in particular the researcher’s spouse or unmarried (common-law) partner, minor unmarried children of the researcher or of the spouse/partner, and in certain cases other family members where the law so provides. The permit continues residence for foreigners already holding a researcher’s family-member permit.

The researcher (sponsor) who, after finishing research, decides to seek employment or self-employment in Slovenia; the sponsor must hold a valid temporary residence permit for a researcher seeking employment or self-employment, to which the family member’s permit is tied. The application is filed by the researcher (sponsor).

General temporary-residence conditions under Article 33 of the Aliens Act (ZTuj-2) apply: valid travel document, appropriate health insurance, sufficient means of subsistence during residence in Slovenia, and no grounds for refusal (e.g. security reasons).
