What investment option or options qualify?

This is Option B of Singapore’s Global Investor Programme (GIP), through which an investor may apply for Singapore Permanent Residence. Option B requires investing S$25 million in a GIP-select fund that invests in Singapore-based companies.

See recorded sources

What official minimum amount, tier or threshold applies to each relevant option?

Option B: an investment of S$25 million in a GIP-select fund, made within the 6-month Approval-in-Principle period. Separately, a non-refundable S$20,000 application fee is paid before submitting the application forms.

How long must the investment be maintained and what continuing ownership, investment or physical-presence conditions are important?

Conditions are checked for Re-Entry Permit renewal by the 5th year of PR. A 5-year renewal requires the Option B investment conditions to have been fulfilled, the S$25 million investment in a GIP-select fund to be maintained, and the applicant or all dependants who obtained PR under the application to have resided in Singapore for more than half of the time. A 3-year renewal requires the investment conditions to have been fulfilled and either the S$25 million GIP-select fund investment to be maintained or the more-than-half residence condition to be met.

Which family members can be included where officially stated, and what broad residence/work rights result?

The spouse and unmarried children below 21 at the date of application can be included as dependants; male children who obtain PR as dependants will be liable for National Service, and male dependants whose spouse is the main applicant may be liable. Parents and unmarried children above 21 cannot be included, but can apply for a Long Term Visit Pass tied to the validity of the main applicant's Re-Entry Permit. The official source does not state the dependants' work rights.

Limits of the record
  • The factsheet does not state dependants' work rights; their residence status (PR) appears only in the National Service sentence.

What status is obtained, how is it renewed, what longer-term residence/citizenship direction is officially stated, and what happens to the investment when relevant?

The status is Singapore permanent residence. If the assessment criteria are met, ICA issues an Approval-in-Principle valid for 6 months; once EDB verifies the investment documents, ICA issues a Final Approval, and PR must be formalised within 12 months of it. On formalisation a 5-year Re-Entry Permit is issued, allowing PR to be kept while abroad; it is renewed if the renewal criteria are met by the 5th year, via ICA's e-REP system from 3 months before expiry. A late application lets the REP lapse, and without a valid REP PR is lost on leaving Singapore. No citizenship direction or treatment of the investment is stated.

Limits of the record
  • The factsheet does not state a citizenship direction or what happens to the investment if PR or REP renewal is refused.
