For the relevant traveller scope, is a visa, electronic authorisation, visa on arrival or no advance visa normally required?

The following groups are exempt under section 5(2) of the Entry Control Ordinance 2007 from the requirement to seek an entry visa prior to entry to Ascension, or permission to remain in Ascension: active members of HM Armed Forces and their accompanying dependants, persons in the service of the Crown in right of the Government of Ascension, Crown servants of the United Kingdom, Falkland Islands, St Helena or Tristan da Cunha governments on official duties and their dependants, persons in the service of the United States Government or its contractors under the Bahamas Long Range Proving Ground Agreement and their dependants, NATO personnel on official duties and their dependants, exempt dependants, and any other classes the Governor appoints by notice in the Gazette.

It covers persons who land at Ascension, ordinarily by sea, and who only intend to stay for a short period of time; the permit places conditions on the individual such as restricting their movement to Georgetown unless on an organised tour, restricting their ability to stay ashore overnight and restricting their ability to hire a car.
