What exact status does accumulated residence lead to?

Residence that counts is residence on the basis of a temporary residence permit. Separately, a foreign national holding a TRP for education purposes may be issued a residence permit after completing an accredited bachelor, specialist, master, residency, assistantship-internship or postgraduate programme at a state educational or scientific organisation. Applicants may apply for a one-time ordinary private visa for up to 3 months to then apply for a TRP with the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA); Decree 702 applicants apply at a dedicated window of the migration centre (except Moscow). The approximate period for obtaining the TRP is 4 months from acceptance of the application. A TRP is valid three years unless the law provides otherwise, and a temporary resident may not choose a place of residence outside the region where temporary residence was permitted.
