What other major conditions apply, how is the status obtained, and what renewal, document-validity, retention or loss rules matter?
In the official April 2026 consolidation, romanian emergency ordinance 194/2002 Article 58(4) permits a nine-month extension after graduation to seek a job, complete employment formalities or open a business, on proof of study completion. Article 58(5) then allows further extensions under the employment or business provisions (Article 55 or 56, as applicable) without obtaining a new long-stay visa. The IGI study page says residence-renewal requests are filed at least 30 days before expiry and decided within 30 days, extendable by up to 15 days for additional checks.

Limits of the record- The cited provisions do not establish that a post-study extension itself confers work authorisation before a qualifying employment or business status is granted. The route-specific documents and conditions for the later Article 55/56 extension are not supplied by these excerpts.
- The law capture is an April 2026 consolidation; an official complete amendment chain through September 2026 was not recovered. These provisions cannot be asserted as the unchanged current wording for September 2026.
