Which travellers require a transit visa/permission and which officially documented exemptions are important?

The currently effective Qatar Civil Aviation Authority eAIP expressly says that no documents or visa are required for passengers arriving and departing on the same through flight or transferring to another flight at the same airport. Entry into Qatar is a different case: passengers entering the state must present valid passport/travel documents and an immigration visa, subject to applicable entry permissions. For a Doha transit tour, Qatar Tourism describes a visa application for Qatar Airways passengers connecting at Hamad for at least six hours who are not eligible for visa-free entry. The MOI on-arrival and Hukoomi pre-travel transit-visa descriptions still differ in their stated procedure.

Limits of the record
  • The exact application channel for a traveller entering Qatar varies across the MOI, Hukoomi and Qatar Tourism pages and has not been reconciled for every nationality and trip.
  • The eAIP same-airport transfer exemption does not itself determine a separate airport-change or baggage-reclaim scenario.

Can the traveller remain airside, and under what circumstances must immigration control be crossed?

Under the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority eAIP 2nd edition effective from 6 August 2026, no documents or visa are required for passengers arriving and departing on the same through flight or transferring to another flight at the same airport. Passengers actually entering Qatar must present valid passport/travel documents and an immigration visa, subject to applicable visa-free entry permissions. Stopover or tour visas concern entry to Qatar; they must not be treated as a requirement for this eAIP same-airport transfer.

Limits of the record
  • The cited eAIP does not determine whether checked-baggage collection, a separate ticket or an airport change forces a particular passenger to cross immigration.

What officially documented baggage collection, terminal, separate-ticket or self-transfer situations affect the immigration requirement?

What maximum transit period, overnight, airport-change or multiple-stop rules matter?

The Ministry of Interior service page describes two Qatar Airways transit cases: onward travel with 12–48 hours in Qatar, and a Doha tourist stop of 4–12 hours. Qatar Tourism currently describes a Doha transit tour for Qatar Airways passengers with a connection of at least six hours who are not eligible for visa-free entry. Discover Qatar, the Qatar Airways destination management company, offers its online transit-visa service for up to four days (up to three nights), including entry and exit times; its FAQ says that visa cannot be extended. These are distinct published scopes and durations. An overnight stay is expressly contemplated by the Discover Qatar product, but the sources do not establish one universal maximum or airport-change/multiple-stop rule.

Limits of the record
  • The MOI 12–48/4–12-hour service, Qatar Tourism six-hour tour and Discover Qatar up-to-four-day online product are not reconciled as one universal visa rule.
  • Airport changes or multiple stops are not established by these sources.

If permission is required, what permission is it, where/how is it obtained, and what core onward-travel evidence is required?

Qatar Tourism describes a Doha transit-tour visa application at the Discover Qatar Transit Desk in Hamad International Airport for Qatar Airways passengers connecting for at least six hours who are not eligible for visa-free entry. Discover Qatar separately offers an online transit-visa application with the form and QAR 100 fee; it requires a colour passport copy, a passport valid at least three months at travel and a 6×6 cm colour photograph uploaded as JPEG/PDF, and states a minimum three working days for processing. The Ministry of Interior decides visa issuance. The older MOI service page describes a free on-arrival visa at Hamad International Airport; for its onward Qatar Airways case it asks that Qatar be en route and the traveller hold a return ticket, while Hukoomi describes an embassy pre-travel channel. These published channels and fees differ.

Limits of the record
  • Discover Qatar online QAR100, Qatar Tourism airport desk, MOI free on-arrival and Hukoomi embassy procedures are not reconciled for each applicant; do not treat them as interchangeable.
  • Discover Qatar’s document list does not state a universal onward ticket requirement for its online product; the MOI service describes a return ticket only for its onward case.

These are the answers currently recorded in the catalogue. A missing or partial answer is not an eligibility decision.
