Limits of the record
  • The linked subsistence rules, treatment payment and insurance are not established in this page's medical-specific text.

Can a carer/companion accompany the patient? Who qualifies and what separate/linked permission applies?

Yes. Without prejudice to family reunification rules, the residence permit granted to a person whose prolonged illness prevents return extends to a foreign citizen who accompanies the applicant as companion or informal carer, and may be requested simultaneously. The companion must submit a medical declaration stating that they are the patient's companion or informal carer, plus a medical declaration attesting the prolonged illness preventing return.

How long can the patient stay, what happens if treatment continues longer, and what official extension or follow-up mechanism exists?

The route grants a temporary residence permit (no residence visa required). Unless special provisions apply, a temporary residence permit is valid for two years from issue and renewable for successive three-year periods.

Limits of the record
  • General Article 75 validity rule; no route-specific duration or treatment-linked renewal condition was found in the sources.
