What exact activity, role or purpose qualifies?

Performing, or preparing to perform, in Poland the function of a clergyman, monk (member of a religious order) or other religious person, justifying a stay of more than 3 months (Article 187(3) of the Foreigners Act).

What organisation, institution, religious body, charity, teacher or host must support the activity?

A church or religious association whose status is regulated by an international agreement, by laws in force in Poland, or which operates on the basis of an entry in the register of churches and other religious associations.

What proves the placement, role, affiliation, experience or cultural/religious/voluntary activity?

A document confirming that, in connection with performing or preparing to perform a clerical or religious function in a church or religious association, the applicant will stay in Poland for more than 3 months.

Can the person receive salary, pocket money, accommodation, meals or reimbursement? Can they undertake other work?

No proof of sufficient means of support is required. No work permit (or, for citizens of Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia or Moldova, statement on entrusting work) is needed to perform the religious function, but one is required for any other work in Poland. The official source does not state whether the religious body may provide a salary, allowances or accommodation.

How long can they stay, can they change host/activity, can family accompany, and can the status be extended?

Granted for the period needed, from more than 3 months to 3 years; it is not renewed automatically, and a new application must be made before expiry. The holder must notify the voivode within 15 working days when no longer performing the religious function. The official source does not state whether family members may accompany or whether the religious body can be changed.
