For the relevant traveller scope, is a visa, electronic authorisation, visa on arrival or no advance visa normally required?

The Guam-CNMI Visa Waiver Program waives the advance visa requirement for eligible nationals of Australia, Brunei, Japan, Malaysia, Nauru, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the Republic of Korea, Singapore and the United Kingdom. Certain travellers connected to Hong Kong or Taiwan may also qualify under their specific regulatory conditions. An electronic travel authorisation is mandatory for programme travel on or after 29 November 2024.

What maximum stay, rolling-period rule, validity and entry rules apply?

Admission is solely for Guam or the CNMI for no more than 45 days. The electronic travel authorisation is generally valid for two years from issue, or until passport expiry when the passport expires sooner; that authorisation validity does not extend the 45-day stay limit.

    Be solely entering and staying on Guam or the CNMI for a period not to exceed forty-five days;
  • 8 CFR 212.4(q)(9)
    A travel authorization issued under the Guam-CNMI Visa Waiver Program will be valid for a period of two years from the date of issuance, unless the passport of the authorized alien will expire in less than two years, in which case the authorization will be valid until the date of expiration of the passport.

What important funds, accommodation, invitation, insurance, onward-travel or passport evidence may be required?

The traveller must have a nonrefundable, nontransferable round-trip ticket with confirmed departure within 45 days, a completed and signed Form I-94, a valid unexpired ICAO-compliant machine-readable passport from an eligible country, the required electronic travel authorisation, and no previous violation of admission terms.

Where/how is permission obtained when required, and under what important circumstances can a stay be extended or changed?

The traveller must receive the electronic travel authorisation before embarking. Admission under the programme cannot normally be extended or changed to another nonimmigrant status. If an emergency prevents timely departure, an immigration officer may in discretion grant satisfactory departure for up to 15 days.

    Each alien falling within the provisions of paragraph (q)(9)(i) of this section must receive a travel authorization prior to embarking on a carrier for travel to Guam or the CNMI.

    Admission under this section renders an alien ineligible for: (i) Adjustment of status to that of a temporary resident or, except as provided by section 245(i) of the Act or as an immediate relative as defined in section 201(b) of the Act, to that of a lawful permanent resident. (ii) Change of nonimmigrant status; or (iii) Extension of stay.

    If an emergency prevents an alien admitted under the Guam-CNMI Visa Waiver Program, as set forth in this paragraph (q), from departing from Guam or the CNMI within the alien's period of authorized stay, an immigration officer having jurisdiction over the place of the alien's temporary stay may, in the officer's discretion, grant a period of satisfactory departure not to exceed 15 days.
