What exact activity, role or purpose qualifies?

The religious-worker subcategory is for a foreign national admitted to carry out religious activity while residing temporarily in Nicaragua. Religious workers are expressly listed in article 25 of the migration law as amended in November 2024.

What organisation, institution, religious body, charity, teacher or host must support the activity?

The published regulation requires endorsement from a legally constituted religious congregation. It also requests the church founding act, an updated ministry registration certificate and a copy of its Official Gazette publication. Current administrative requirements should be confirmed with the migration authority.

Can the person receive salary, pocket money, accommodation, meals or reimbursement? Can they undertake other work?

Residents must demonstrate enough resources to support themselves and their family. The residence-card system distinguishes permission with work rights from permission without work rights; religious residence alone does not establish unrestricted employment. The official sources do not specify a religious-worker salary, allowance, meals or accommodation entitlement.

Article 25 as amended in November 2024 provides temporary residence from three months to one year, renewable, or for the duration of the admitted activity or purpose. Dependent relatives may qualify within the second degree of blood relationship and first degree of affinity. The official source does not establish an automatic right to change congregation.
