What important funds, accommodation, invitation, insurance, onward-travel or passport evidence may be required?

Applicants need at least NZD $1,000 per person per month, or NZD $400 if living on board a yacht or accommodation is already paid; if leaving on commercial transport, a travel ticket or enough money to buy one; if leaving on a private craft, owners and dependants need evidence of ownership and adequate insurance against major damage, and crew and passengers a letter from the owner or captain confirming they will leave on that craft.

Where/how is permission obtained when required, and under what important circumstances can a stay be extended or changed?

The visa is obtained from Immigration New Zealand; from 1 October 2026 applications must be submitted through the enhanced Immigration Online system. Further visas can be applied for to stay up to 9 months, or up to 12 months if the yacht or aircraft needs repairs or to wait out the South Pacific hurricane season (October to April).
