Which family relationships qualify?

The adult child must be a New Zealand citizen or resident living in New Zealand.

What is important for proving marriage, partnership, parentage, custody, dependency or another qualifying relationship?

The applicant must be the parent or legal guardian of the sponsoring child and must give evidence of the relationship, such as an original or certified copy of the child's document or adoption papers. A legal guardian must provide: evidence that the child's parents are deceased and died before the child turned 20; and documents, including medical and school records, showing custody and the right to control the child's upbringing before age 20. A grandparent must provide the same, plus legal documents naming them as guardian. The applicant must also prove their relationship to all their other children, including biological and adopted children, children they were legal guardian for, and a partner's children who lived with them before age 17. Citizens of China may use household registration documents if these confirm the relationship.

The applicant must have at least NZD $1 million to invest for 4 years, NZD $500,000 for settlement and annual income of at least NZD $60,000.
