This route is for business investors already operating a business in New Zealand: holders of a Business Investor Work Visa who have been actively running a business in New Zealand for at least 12 months or 3 years depending on the amount invested, having been self-employed in the same business purchased during the Establishment stage of their work visa.

What must actually exist or be demonstrated: business plan, company, innovation, clients, contracts, economic activity, job creation or other substance?

The business run must be the same one approved during the Establishment stage of the work visa (or through a variation of conditions application). It must employ at least 5 people in full-time equivalent positions and have created, and maintained for at least 12 months, ongoing employment for 1 additional full-time equivalent New Zealand citizen or resident (in addition to the 5 full-time positions). It must have stayed compliant with the same immigration, employment and business standards required for the Business Investor Work Visa.
