Which population, circumstances or geographic group does the mechanism cover?
Refugees: people with a well-founded fear of persecution in their country of origin because of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership of a social group. Subsidiary protection: people with well-founded reasons to fear serious harm on return, meaning the death penalty or execution, torture or inhumane or degrading treatment, or a serious personal threat to life from random violence in an armed conflict. Family members: a spouse or partner, father, mother or minor child of someone who recently received an asylum residence permit in the Netherlands.

Your religion.
Your nationality.
Your political opinion.
You belong to a certain social group.
Subsidiary protection
You have well-founded reasons to fear serious harm when you return to your country. The following situations are considered serious harm:
The death penalty or execution.
Torture or other inhumane or degrading treatment in your country of origin.
Serious and personal threat to your life because of random violence. This is because of an armed conflict in your country of origin.
Family member
Your husband or wife, partner, father, mother or minor child has recently received an asylum residence permit in the Netherlands.
