What exactly is the official special programme/status and why does it exist?

This is the Special Purpose Visa sub-category for foreign military personnel: it exists to let a member of another country's armed forces enter Nauru in an official capacity, together with their dependants.

Which specific population, role, circumstance or historical/legal situation does it cover?

It covers a member of a foreign country's armed forces on official business in Nauru, and that member's dependants (as defined in reg 3: spouse, child under 18, or a person wholly dependent on them).

Limits of the record
  • Not established: the correction failed a second independent check (NAO_SUSTENTA: Reg 11(1) says an application 'may be made' before, on or after entry; 'is required' is not stated.)

What immigration status and rights result, how long do they last, can family be included, and what happens if the special qualifying circumstance ends?

A special purpose visa may be granted for any period specified in it and for a single entry or multiple entries. It must specify the purpose for which it is granted, and the holder may not, except with the Secretary's approval, engage in any activity for which a business visa may be granted other than one covered by the visa. The Director may attach any other reasonable condition considered necessary or desirable. The member's dependants may also be covered. The official source does not state what happens when the official capacity ends.

Limits of the record
  • Inclusion of dependants is stated in reg 11(2)(a), cited in the protected R1/R2 answers, not here.
  • The captured text does not state what happens when the official capacity ends.

These are the answers currently recorded in the catalogue. A missing or partial answer is not an eligibility decision.
