  • Not established: the correction failed a second independent check (ESTADO_ERRADO: Marked proven with no residual, but reg 7(1A) (same file) lets a Temporary Settlement visa holder apply for a dependant's visa at the Secretary's discretion, so 'may only be granted to a dependant of a business or residence visa holder' needs that caveat in residuals.)

Who may sponsor or bring the family member, and what immigration/citizenship status must that person hold?

A dependant's visa may only be granted to a dependant of the holder of a business visa or residence visa, and its purpose is to authorise the holder to reside with that business visa or residence visa holder as his or her dependant. In addition, the holder of a temporary settlement visa may apply to the Secretary for a dependant's visa to be granted to a dependant, and the Secretary has the discretion to permit the application.

  • Searched regs 3 and 7 and Schedule 2 in a8e2687d4d9f0e2a.txt: no marriage certificate, birth certificate, custody or dependency evidence requirement is stated; the dependant definition answers R1, not how the relationship is proven.

What important financial, accommodation, insurance or maintenance responsibilities apply?

A fee of $1,000 is payable for a Dependant's visa; dependants of employees of the Republic, RONPHOS or any other statutory corporation of the Republic, or any other person exempted by the Minister, are exempt from paying the fee. The official source does not state any accommodation, insurance or maintenance requirement.

How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

An application for a Dependant's visa may be made before, on or after entry into Nauru. If granted, it lasts for the remaining period of the visa of the person of whom the applicant is a dependant, for a single or multiple entries. It expires for a spouse dependant on divorce or formal separation, for any other dependant on ceasing to be a dependant, and for any dependant on grant of a visa of a different class or on cancellation or expiry of the principal's visa. The official source does not state work rights or any path to independent or longer-term status.
