Which family relationships qualify?

Qualifying relatives are a foreign wife or husband married to a Myanmar citizen in accord with Myanmar Customary Law or the existing laws and directives on marriage of Myanmar citizens who are not Buddhist, and their unmarried offspring under 18 years of age born or adopted by them.

Who may sponsor or bring the family member, and what immigration/citizenship status must that person hold?

The related Myanmar citizen takes responsibility for, and undertakes, the application; if that responsible Myanmar citizen dies or has their citizenship terminated or revoked before permission is granted, the application is voided.

What is important for proving marriage, partnership, parentage, custody, dependency or another qualifying relationship?

A foreign spouse must acknowledge at least two years of legal marriage and no other wife or husband besides the present Myanmar-citizen spouse, and must submit an official document, authenticated and translated into English by a person recognised by the foreigner's government, admitting that the foreigner has no other wife or husband.

What important financial, accommodation, insurance or maintenance responsibilities apply?

The applicant pays a non-returnable US$500 initial application fee and, when drawing and annually registering the Permanent Residence Certificate, US$1000 per annum for a foreigner and US$300 per annum for each legal offspring aged seven to 18 applying along (offspring seven years and under reside free of charge); the applicant must pay these fees personally.
