What maximum stay, rolling-period rule, validity and entry rules apply?

The stay is up to 90 days; the visa permission is valid for 60 days after issuance; unless treaties provide otherwise, a single/double-entry visa is valid for 150 days until entry and a temporary visitor may stay up to 90 days. A short-term visitor must apply for a residence permit if the intended stay is more than 180 days in one year.

What important funds, accommodation, invitation, insurance, onward-travel or passport evidence may be required?

Passport (or valid substitute) valid for at least 180 days; an official request letter from the inviting organisation (type of activity, duration of stay, visa receiving point); the legal entity's state registration certificate and special licence if applicable; other documents if needed (tax statement, cooperation agreement, project plan, agenda). Where/how is permission obtained when required, and under what important circumstances can a stay be extended or changed?

The inviting party applies to the Immigration Agency of Mongolia for the visa permission (online application; standard 5 working days, expedited 3; fee 2500₮ standard, 5000₮ expedited). Extension: under Article 19.2 of the law and Article 9.1 of the visa issuance regulation (Government Resolution No. 192 of 2021), a temporary visitor may extend the stay once for up to 30 days, applying at least 5 working days before the visa expires; a new extension may be requested 90 days after the previous one expired.
