How long must the investment be maintained and what continuing ownership, investment or physical-presence conditions are important?

The investment must be transferred into a bank account in Mauritius within 60 days from the date of issuance of the occupation permit. A minimum turnover of 5 million rupees is required as from the third year of registration, and for renewal a minimum turnover of 8 million rupees is required as from the fifth year of registration. The official source does not state how long the investment itself must be maintained or any physical-presence condition.

Which family members can be included where officially stated, and what broad residence/work rights result?

The spouse, dependent children (a child, stepchild or adopted child who is wholly dependent, not over 24, unmarried and not in gainful activity), parents and other dependants of an occupation permit holder are eligible for a residence permit, for a duration not exceeding that of the main holder. The spouse of an occupation permit holder may, on application, be granted an occupation permit. The official source does not state the work rights of dependants holding a residence permit.

The status is an occupation permit for a non-citizen investor, valid for 10 years from the date of issue. For longer-term residence, the criteria for a permanent residence permit include holding an occupation permit as investor for at least 5 years and a minimum annual turnover of 15 million rupees for the 5 years preceding application, or an aggregate turnover of 75 million rupees over the 5 consecutive years immediately preceding the application.
