How does the application work at a high level, what rights does the family member receive, how long does the status last, and how can it become independent or longer-term where officially stated?

Before first entry the sponsor submits a Sponsorship Declaration through the IMUGA portal, at least 7 working days before arrival, stating that the purpose is to bring in a dependent; once the family arrives on approved sponsorship, the Dependent Visa is applied for and the approved eVisa is downloaded from the IMUGA Portal. The official source does not state the visa's validity period, the dependant's work rights or any route to longer-term status.
