Is this aimed at retirees, pensioners, financially independent people, passive-income holders or another profile?

Gold MM2H is open to eligible foreign individuals from countries with diplomatic relations with Malaysia, aged at least 25, subject to a USD 500,000 fixed deposit at a qualifying Malaysian financial institution and purchase, after programme approval, of a residence worth at least RM 1 million.

Which types of income/assets are accepted according to the official source?

The financial requirement is a fixed deposit at a Malaysian institution licensed under the Financial Services Act 2013 or Islamic Financial Services Act 2013, plus a purchased residence. After approval, up to 50% of the principal deposit can be withdrawn for a Malaysian residence purchase, education, medical or tourism activities. The Gold category does not allow business/investment activities or career opportunities. A spouse, biological/step/adopted children below 21, unmarried unemployed children aged 21-34, medically certified disabled children without an age limit, and parents or parents-in-law may accompany. Dependent children can study up to tertiary level in government-recognised institutions under the stated MM2H/Student Pass arrangement.

Gold grants 15 years with multiple entry, subject to passport validity. After the programme term, renewal is every five years and requires a valid passport copy, latest medical report and health insurance. Participants aged 25-49 must meet 90 cumulative days per year, which the principal and/or dependants can fulfil; the overview states no minimum stay at 50+. The home cannot be sold for 10 years except to upgrade to a higher-value residence. No route to permanent residence or citizenship is stated in the official programme pages.
