The holder of a Permit for Travelling to Hong Kong and Macao applies for Residence Authorization at the Border Gate Checkpoint on entry, receives an application acceptance receipt and completes the procedure at the Residence Subdivision on the specified date; persons marked “R” (preliminarily eligible to be Macao permanent residents) go directly to the Identification Services Bureau. The first Residence Authorization Certificate costs MOP200 with a 5-working-day pledge; the holder must apply for a Macao Resident Identity Card within 90 days of issue. A family-reunion Residence Authorization is generally revoked or not renewed if the marital relation on which it was based ends, and holders must habitually reside in Macao. After completing the entry clearance formalities and making an application for Residence Authorization at the Border Gate Checkpoint, the interested person will be issued an ‘application acceptance receipt’. He or she is required to complete the administrative procedures at the Residence Subdivision on the date specified on the receipt.

Since you were granted Residence Authorization and hence a non-permanent resident identity card for the reason of reunion with your spouse in the first place, a change in your marital relation at this moment may affect your residence status. Generally, the authorities will revoke your Residence Authorization (or reject your application for renewal of the Residence Authorization) because the prerequisite for the original approval no longer exists.
In other words, in all cases that Residence Authorization is granted (See Note), no matter it is granted on the basis of family reunion or other reasons permitted by law, and no matter renewal is required or not, the interested persons are required to comply with the above stipulation regarding “habitually residing” for the duration of the Residence Authorization.
