How long is the status granted, what is required for renewal, what physical-presence obligations matter, and what longer-term residence direction exists?

The residence permit for private reasons is valid for a maximum of 3 years and is renewable on request as long as the conditions are met; renewal is requested from the General Department of immigration within 2 months prior to expiry, with proof of sufficient resources (e.g. pension certificate, employment contract).
